Ultimate Golf is ready to turn up the heat!

The ultimate Golf is here! And this time, the flagship hot hatchback has more power and an all-new badge to boot.

The replacement for the R32 is being referred to within VW as the R-Series Turbo, but it is likely to be called the R20T, hinting at its engine capacity. And our exclusive pictures show how the most powerful Golf ever will look when it eclipses the GTI at the top of the range.

VW is ditching the R32 name, along with the 3.2-litre V6 that has powered the previous two cars, Auto Express has learned. In its place will be a tuned version of the GTIs four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine.

A bigger turbo, as well as tweaks to the ECU, will ensure the car has a power output of around 270bhp, that is more than 20bhp above the outgoing V6. Whats more, as the unit is lighter, the R20T should weigh roughly the same as the GTI.

But with all that extra power on tap, it will deliver scintillating pace, with the 0-60mph sprint arriving in about five seconds. That is a full 1.5secs quicker than the MkV R32, and only a few tenths shy of the BMW V8-engined M3. Top speed will be limited to 155mph.
Audi RS3 2010

Is the fastest A3 ever on the way? It seems likely, as Audi development boss Michael Dick has given a strong hint that the best-selling hatch could be in line to receive the legendary RS makeover.

Only weeks after the German manufacturer unveiled its flagship TT-RS at the Geneva Motor Show, it looks as though a performance flagship version of the smallest model in the line-up could be added.

It would be the first time the RS badge is offered on the compact hatchback A3, at present, the range-topping variant is the S3, powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. To give it the step up in pace required, the RS3 would take power from the same 2.5-litre, five-cylinder turbo unit as in the TT-RS. This delivers a staggering 340bhp and 450Nm of torque to all the tyres via the firms quattro 4WD transmission.

It would enable the Audi to complete the 0-62mph sprint in around five seconds and hit a top speed of 155mph, figures that would make it one of the fastest hot hatches on the road. But Dick hinted the RS3s power may be limited so that it does not tread on the toes of the TT-RS.

Dick has also said that the current S3 would not need to be altered drastically, with only minor changes to the handling and aerodynamics required to bring it in line with what buyers would expect from an RS.

So far, nothing has been confirmed officially. But if the RS3 does reach production, a price tag of around £35,000 is likely, and that would make it an expensive rival to the Ford Focus RS and BMW 135i.
Geneva 2010: Porsche 918 Spyder

The unveiling of the hybrid Porsche 918 Spyder concept is one of the big surprises of the 2010 Geneva motor show.

Powered by a 500bhp V8 petrol engine and a pair of electric motors, one for the front wheels, the other supplementing the V8, the 918 Spyder has a top speed of 198mph and a 0-62mph time of just 3.2 seconds.

Meanwhile, Porsche also claims astonishingly low CO2 emissions of just 70g/km and fuel economy of 78mpg. Meanwhile it is said to be able to lap the Nurburgring in under 7minutes, 30seconds. That is faster than the Carrera GT.

The 918 is able to achieve such a seemingly disparate set of figures thanks to four different drive modes. E-Drive allows electric-only travel for up to 16miles, while Race Hybrid sits at the other end of the scale and places the emphasis on ultimate performance by combining both electric and petrol power.

The 918 Syders design is reminiscent of the Carrera GT supercar but is much more compact. It also happens to be the most futuristic-looking Porsche in a very long time.

For now, the 918 remains a concept car, but Porsche concepts do tend, more often than not, to end up a production reality.
New Fiat 500C Arbarth + Punto Evo Pics

These are the first official pictures of two new models created by Fiats tuning division: the 500C Abarth and Punto Evo Abarth.

Abarth has injected a dose of performance and style into Fiats convertible 500 supermini and the new Punto Evo hatchback, and both will debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Power for the Abarth 500C is provided by a 138bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged T-Jet petrol engine, mated to a six-speed automated manual gearbox with paddle shift as standard.

This means that the 500C will be capable of reaching 62mph in 8.1 seconds and go on to a top speed of 127mph. Power options for the Abarth Punto Evo, which will replace the current Grande Punto Abarth, is provided by a 161bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged Multiair engine and a 178bhp Esseesse version.

The standard car is capable of getting from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 133mph, whilst maintaining an impressive 47mpg fuel economy and CO2 emissions of 142g/km.

A stop-start system, which cuts power to the engine when the car is stationary, is fitted as standard. Both models will go on sale later this year, priced from around £17,000 for the Abarth 500C and £15,000 for the Abarth Punto Evo.
