How long does it normally take to replace a landrover (300 Disco type) engine?

My head gasket blew, so I had to get a recon engine. The car has now been in the garage for 5 weeks. Is this normal?

R&R engine The worst case scenario I know of is a Diesel Ford Pickup – it requires removal of the truck cab from the chassis and that is about a 16 hour job all told, most engines can be replaced in between 10 to 12 hours. That’s mechanic working on the vehicle labor hours. Not having access to the rate book for your Landrover however I figure 2 days in the shop is usually about right for an R&R job. . .
Now in addition to that, the time to order an engine and have it delivered should be between 5 days to 2 weeks.
Therefore I suspect that they are dragging their feet a little too much. If possible you need to start stopping in daily and demanding status updates if that is not possible call them two or three times a day “Is my car done yet???” after about 2 days of that they will put everyone in the shop on it just to get you out of their hair!

Is the garage looking for the engine? Then they’re probably still looking, albeit with little enthusiasm. Time to prod them.
The actual operation would probably take a day or so, maybe two.
